2024 National & Terrazzo Mosaic Association “Job of the Year”, the highest award a terrazzo contractor can receive, both domestically and internationally, below are their kind words:
This newly constructed LEED-certified terminal’s understated European-style design and imaginative use of light, space, and color offer an inviting space for travelers. In the impeccably composed interior, the subtle aviation-themed design and fresh color palette of the 555,000 square-foot terrazzo floor echoed in the ceiling, enhances the streamlined aesthetic without overpowering it.
Showcasing high-caliber craftsmanship, intricate terrazzo patterning comprising over 1,000 handset zinc chevrons guides passengers through the terminal. The poured-in-place floors were handcrafted to meet a remarkable flatness tolerance of one-eighth inch in 10 feet throughout the expansive installation.
Another impressive feature of the project is the precast cement terrazzo stairs. Over 3,600 linear feet of four-inch-thick tread-and-riser units are installed on 22 flights of stairs throughout the terminal. Value engineering also played a role in the project to maximize terrazzo square footage by using one consistent aggregate blend of glass, mother-of-pearl, mirror, and marble throughout various epoxy matrix colors. A harmonious fusion of design and functionality, these solid and seamless terrazzo floors were built to handle the high-traffic environment of a busy major airport, delivering optimal ease of maintenance and unbeatable resilience.
